Bee Gees

The Bee Gees are one of the most legendary music groups of all time. Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb were born in the UK but immigrated to Australia as children. This is where they formed the band in 1958. The Bee Gees have sold over 220 million albums and has influenced various pop and blues artists across. The harmonies and disco feels of Stayin’ Alive and How Deep is Your Love will live in our hearts and minds forever.

AC/DC

Another music icon is AC/DC. Known in The Oz as Acca Dacca, this rock band was founded in Sydney in the early 70’s. The Young brothers, Malcolm and Angus, have entertained several lineup changes over the years. In total, AC/DC has sold more than 200 million albums, with Highway to Hell as their most famous contribution to our playlists. Other hits include It’s a Long Way to the Top and You Shook Me All Night Long.

Kylie Minogue

In the pop music industry and the queer community, Kylie Minogue is still one of the most exciting names. Though she has left Australia to settle in the UK since the 90’s, the Melbourne-raised star remains an Aussie icon. It is in an Australian soap opera, Neighbours, where she rose to fame. Her 80’s hit The Locomotion put her in everyone’s radar. By the 2000s, we have all heard of Kylie and her hits like Can’t Get You Outta My Head and Spinning Around.

Savage Garden

The Aussie band Savage Garden also made their way to the top of the international music charts. Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones started their band at Brisbane and has achieved worldwide success from 1994 to 2001. You can blame these two Aussies for many of your LSS moments. Until now, we still love listening and singing to Truly Madly Deeply, The Animal Song, and I Knew I Loved You.

John Farnham

Though certainly not a household name outside Australia, John Farnham’s infuence in the Aussie music scene is immeasurable. For one thing, John is the only Australian musician to hold a #1 record for five consecutive decades! He is one of the most respected celebrities in Australia, with hits like You’re The VoiceThat’s FreedomA Touch of Paradise, and Burn for You. This rock and pop icon truly makes Aussies proud.
