Be Consistent

Lets start by giving a very simple example:

When you think of MacDonald’s you have a clear picture of what they offer. They provide the exact same products day in and day out. It also doesn’t matter in which country you are, the expectations are the same. You don’t go there because they make the best hamburger, you go there because you know exactly what you’re going to get.

They are consistent. This is their secret power. This is the main reason why their businesses is SO successful!

Consistency means providing predictable, reliable results.

You can translate this to who ever you are dealing with.  It could be your customers or clients (if you are a company), teachers (if you are a student), team members (if you are an employee, team mates (if you are in team sports) and even your friends.

Consistency is key.
When you interact with a new person, and they have a good experience with you, they will expect the same thing the second time round. They will then have trust and confidence to come back for a third and fourth round. You can bet they are coming back to you because of your level of consistency.

This is how it works:

  1. The first interaction sets the benchmark,
  2. the second visit or interaction confirms their expectations (or doesn’t confirm consistency)
  3. When they come back for a third time, they have a clear image of what to expect.

To be consistent is actually very simple: Give people (or customers) what you tell them you’re going to give them, every single time. It is basically fulfilling a promise. It is acting on your words.
