Skills that make Introverts great entrepreneurs

Are you the type of person that enjoys their own company? You are more than happy to go travelling and exploring the world on your own? You like staying at home watching a good flick on Sunday nights?  You prefer to live on your own studio apartment rather than living at the housing college of the University because being constantly surrounded by people is not the type of thing you enjoy? If all of these apply to you, then this post is for you!

There’s an urban myth that says that to be successful in business you have to be highly sociable and a natural net-worker. Well this is not actually true.
Many introverts have actually found great success as entrepreneurs.  Here are five ways that introverted people, regardless of educational level, can be successful in entrepreneurship.

  1. Creativity, Not Recognition, Is the Goal

Introverts innovate for the pure joy and satisfaction of innovating or solving a problem, not for the attention or fame they will get for doing it.  Just as, for introverts, the goal of education is to learn rather than to attain a higher social status, the process of forming and implementing successful business ideas is what really makes entrepreneurship rewarding for them.

  1. Introverts Don’t Make Impulsive Decisions

Introverts are more likely than their more outgoing brethren to let their ideas develop for a long time before acting on them publicly.  Steve Jobs first started working on the readable fonts you see on your smart phone today when he was living in student housing and wearing his hair in a long ponytail.  Introverts are unlikely to make big decisions on a whim.

  1. Introverts Listen

One of the things introverts find stressful about big social gatherings is that everyone talks, but no one listens.  If you have to travel a long distance to talk to an introvert about business, it is worth the trip, because the introvert will listen to what you say and take it seriously.

  1. Introverts Provide Thoughtful Feedback

If you ask an introvert a question or present a concern, the introvert is unlikely to give you a quick, insincere response just to get you out of the way.  An introvert will carefully consider your question and get back to you with a well thought out answer.  This is one of the reasons many introverts prefer email over phone calls.

  1. Humility

So many of the problems in the business world are caused by a lack of humility, and many introverts possess humility in spades.  They are unlikely to butt heads with co-workers just for the sake of winning an argument or to make themselves feel important.
